Do not give out personal information (Credit Cards / Address / Phone Number / Bank Information). All Consultant business should be done through email to maintain a record and also for scam / safety purposes.

 

Give out a samples of your ideas or content. Your customers need to see what you are capable of by providing a couple of examples. After that you can charge them for the total amount of ideas or for each individual idea you have.

 

Use an online pay app to avoid giving out personal information. Use Venmo / PayPal / Cash App / Stride or whatever you are comfortable with. Avoid checks and cash because they can give your personal address and bank information away. For safety reasons use an online pay app.

 

Keep it professional! Be respectful and kind, that’s the best type of business ethic to have! Do not force, pressure or hurry anyone into a sale or negotiation. Give them time to decide and to be able to think of ideas for you. After all creativity is a process!

 

Follow through with the negotiation! Do not steal ideas or neglect payment of intellectual property. Agree on the terms that you negotiated.

 

Give a license and price for everything you give. Since you are giving ideas away, it is better to charge your customer a price for everything you give them, unless you agree to give it away for free or for promotional use. That way it gets rid of the hassle and mistrust of stealing intellectual property, if they decide not to use it at least they paid for it.
