I think it makes sense for the world to plant trees to reduce pollution. These political parties that want to deny that the world needs care and that it won't hurt to clean up after ourselves only care about the same argument that climate change isn't a big deal. It might not be, but pollution is a reality, and trees can help filter the filthy air. Until we create artificial carbon filters trees are the best solution for clean air.
